’Tis the season for holiday parties with punch bowls full of rich, creamy eggnog, juicy roasts and lots of festive cookies. Right after all your holiday indulging comes the New Year’s resolutions. While losing weight is always one of the most popular resolutions each year, studies say that less than 10 percent of those who aspire actually succeed in achieving their goals. The Anti-Aging and Laser Institute (AALI) has some tips on how to keep those weight loss resolutions.
- Make your goal measurable and specific “I’m going to lose weight” is far too general a goal. Define your goal with specifics including how much weight you’d like to lose in a finite period of time. For example, “I’ll lose two pounds a week until I lose 20” is a specific goal. “I’ll go to yoga and walk 30 minutes, four days a week” is also good.
- Enlist some accountability buddies on social media Social media has really helped keep those with goals motivated. Posting those goals on Facebook or Twitter gets your friends and family right there with you, celebrating successes and watching your progress. Post photos of your more healthful meals and get plenty of positive reinforcement and share recipe ideas.
- Get a resolution buddy Let your family know about your resolutions so they can help you achieve them or tackle them right along with you. A workout buddy is always a great motivator. Those evening walks or hikes in the woods are more fun when you have someone beside you — to talk with and get motivation from. It also makes you less likely to quit your workouts
These tips plus the help of our Weight loss professionals here in AALI can assure you the achievement of completing your new years resolutions.
